Acupuncture to Quit Smoking

Quit SmokingAcupuncture is catching on like wildfire as a reliable alternative to help quit smoking. Acupuncture has turned many cigarette smokers into permanent ex-smokers.  It has been proved that smokers who are given acupuncture treatments have less of a desire to continue smoking and their smoking decreases after each acupuncture treatment. It has been proven over and over again that people who receive acupuncture treatments are twice as likely to quit smoking than people who did not receive acupuncture.

Among the benefits reported by my patients are; more will power, a stronger commitment to not smoking, a more optimistic and cooperative attitude toward the quit smoking process, reductions in cravings, and a calmness replacing anxiety.  People who are determined to quit smoking use acupuncture.

The reasons to quit smoking are endless. Cigarettes have 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins.

How Long Will it Take to Quit Smoking?

It is estimated that most smokers will attempt to quit tobacco two or three times, or more, before finally kicking the habit. When conventional methods to quitting tobacco have failed, smokers often look outside mainstream approaches and turn to alternative medicine so they can finally quit smoking. Some try laser and hypnotherapy, but ultimately they come for acupuncture when they are really ready to stop smoking.

Acupuncture treatment is a very powerful tool for stop smoking yet it is not a very well known mothod among those who are planning to quit.

Acupuncture has another benefit smokers trying to quit. It is not known exactly why, but it is a recurring effect that after your acupuncture session, cigarettes actually taste foul. After your acupuncture session, even if you do try and have a cigarette, the taste will have you spitting until your mouth is dry and searching for mints to remove that nasty burnt taste. It’s strange but fortunately this adverse effect works to help you quit smoking.

Why Should I Quit Smoking?

Another added benefit of putting down your cigarettes is that you will be able to redefine yourself. You will now be a non-smoker. Look in the mirror and say this, “I am a non-smoker”. How does that feel? All of my clients say it makes them feel great!

My acupuncture treatments focus on your jitters, cravings, irritability and restlessness; all symptoms that my patients complain about while they are trying to quit. Acupuncture is proven to aid in relaxation and detoxification for those who are looking for relief during this process.

In one study acupuncture was found to significantly reduce the desire to smoke up to five years after the initial treatment (University of Oslo). Subjects of the study also reported that cigarettes tasted worse after acupuncture treatment and that the treatments had effectively reduced their craving for tobacco.

The acupuncture needles used are whisker-thin. They are gently inserted into various points in the outer ear and body to quit smoking. You will also learn to identify your particular triggers for smoking – how to resist them is what will assist you the most.

Acupuncture can empower you to take control and begin a healthy and smoke-free life!

Acupuncture is not a panacea or a magic cure in the treatment of any addiction, including smoking. But, acupuncture is effective in making it easier to quit and remain smoke-free for good.

I have found acupuncture to be wildly successful when quitting smoking. However unless you’re truly at that point where you’re ready to put down your cigarettes for good, acupuncture’s benefit will be limited. Acupuncture can help you quit, but it can’t make you quit. You will quit smoking for good with acupuncture!

A smoker receiving acupuncture treatment to kick the habit must get it at least twice a week for three to five weeks without any gap, for the treatment to be fully effective. Most of the time I apply the needles three times in that first week if possible. Three treatments in the first week is going to do the trick to put you into the “non-smoker” category. Typical treatments last from 20 to 45 minutes. The length, number and frequency of treatments will vary. Monthly treatments are recommended for four to six months after to reinforce your non-smoking status.

What is the Acupuncture Method for Quitting Smoking?

I use the designated auricular acupuncture (outer ear) protocol from NADA as well as specific unique body points matched to your unique constitution. Ear acupuncture is used around the world to help people deal with and recover from substance abuse. The NADA protocol has been shown in a variety of clinical settings to be beneficial in the process of detoxification from substance abuse as well as to help with the emotional, physical and psychological attributes involved in any addiction.

Hair thin, sterilized, one-time-use stainless-steel needles are applied just under the skin, where they remain for approximately 30-50 minutes while you relax on a comfortable massage table in a quiet room with peaceful music all designed to lull you off to the deepest nap you will probably ever take.

People who seek out acupuncture for smoking cessation are usually highly motivated to quit smoking. They may have attempted to quit previously without success, but now feel that they are ready.

You have to want to quit smoking for yourself and not for anyone else, or it just won’t work. You have to be self-motivated. Every person who chooses acupuncture to quit smoking has a strong desire to quit now, rather than putting it off indefinitely. Acupuncture balances you allowing for mental and physical strength of character, so the likelihood for success is great and the endless cycle of smoking quitting smoking quitting stops for good!

If you are extremely connected to your cigarette smoking, and you want to quit smoking, smoking between acupuncture treatments won’t make you feel good, nor will it taste good to you. If acupuncture can not help you recover fully, it will surely help you reduce the cravings and the amount of cigarettes you smoke will diminish to a large extent. Acupuncture will reduce the stress and difficulty of quitting smoking, and can aid you in your decision to quit smoking.

Since the first month after saying, “Help me stop smoking!” and then quitting, is probably the most difficult, the acupuncture program can ease you through this time. The treatments focus on any physical or emotional withdrawal symptoms that may arise, and also aid in relaxation.

My acupuncture program to help you quit smoking will only be effective if you meet me halfway. Acupuncture will not do it ‘for’ you. You need to have a genuine desire to quit smoking. It’s very important to enlist the support of friends and family. Everyone responds to acupuncture and quitting smoking differently. Some may sail through the process with little or no problems, while others may have a harder time with withdrawal. I support you in your efforts to begin a healthy and smoke-free life!

In the protocol that I use, I insert five needles into the ear (actually into the cartilage, not really into the ear canal) and a couple on the hand and wrist. The acupuncture needles are inserted in specific areas that will affect energy flow to your mouth, lungs and respiratory system as well as parts of your brain that generate cravings for tobacco smoke. Stop smoking. Now! In between treatments, small metal pellets can be stuck to the acupuncture points on the ear. When a cigarette craving hits, gently pressing on the pellets stimulates the acupuncture points to calm the mind and eliminate the craving. Quit smoking Now!
